How to Create a Vista Service User and Install the App Xchange Agent
The App Xchange Agent connects your Viewpoint Vista ERP to Tenna so the integration can move data between the two systems. This article covers how to create a Vista Service User for the integration and how to have the App Xchange Agent installed on your server. It applies to both cloud-hosted and on-premises Vista instances; steps that apply to only one environment are labeled.
Permission Requirements: Users require Vista administrator access with SQL access in order to complete this task.
Pro Tip! Create a new Service User for each discrete integration, even if you already have an integration using a Vista Service User.

Assign Datatype Security Groups
Grant Additional SQL Roles (On-Prem Only)
Create the Vista Service User
- 1
- In Vista, open Viewpoint Administration > Programs > VA User Profile.

- 2
- Click the "New Record" icon.

- 3
- In the User Name field, enter a descriptive username to identify this Service User. The recommended username is XChangeTenna.
IMPORTANT! Do not exceed the maximum character limit of 128 characters.

- 4
- In the User Type dropdown, select "User Application".
- 5
- In the Full Name field, enter XChangeTenna.
- 6
- In the Email Address field, enter any email address.
NOTE: The integration does not use the email address, but the Vista form requires it.
- 7
- Click the "Save" icon. An error message displays stating that no SQL login matches the username.
- 8
- Click "Close".
- 9
- Create a strong password for the Service User.
Assign Datatype Security Groups
In Vista, assign the proper datatype security groups to XChangeTenna for each company you want to integrate.
IMPORTANT! This step is essential for any Vista companies that leverage datatype security. The integration is unable to move data with an improper data security setup.
Grant Additional SQL Roles (On-Prem Only)
NOTE: Skip this section if your Vista instance is cloud-hosted.
In a SQL manager, grant XChangeTenna the following roles:
- db_datareader
- public
- VCSUsers
Record Your Connection Information
Record the following information. You need it to complete the integration setup.
- Server name: The name of the server your Vista instance is hosted on.
- Database name: The name of your Vista database.
- Service User name: The username you created, i.e., XChangeTenna.
- Service User password: The password you created for the Service User.
Request the Agent Installation (Cloud-Hosted)
NOTE: If your Vista instance is hosted on-premises, the App Xchange Agent is installed on your own server rather than through Trimble Support. Contact Customer Support at help@tenna.com for assistance with an on-premises installation.
- 1
- Sign in to Trimble Support and create a case.
- 2
- Enter the following information and leave all other fields blank.

- Case Type: Product Support & Account
- Product: Vista/Vista Web

- Awaiting Setup: An error occurred or the process was exited early.
NOTE: If the agent's state is Awaiting Setup, contact Customer Support at help@tenna.com or call 888.836.6269.
