How to Update Current Hours and Idle Hours (Desktop)

What: Tenna tracks Current Hours and Idle Hours for Category Types: Equipment and Trucks. This data is useful for understanding current status, reporting, and triggering automatic preventative maintenance. This article will give instructions for enabling or disabling hours or idle hours tracking, and how to manually update current hours or idle hours.

Who: Users with the Edit/Update Asset permission and Hours permission can view and manually edit hours and idle hours.

NOTE:

Updating current hours and idle hours can only be done in Tenna on a desktop, not in the Tenna App.

Trackers: Assets with the following trackers will report hours and/or idle hours, provided the tracker is installed, verified and online:

  • TennaCANbus
  • TennaMINI 2.0 (Current Hours only)
  • TennaMINI Plug-In (Current Hours only)
  • TennaMINI Plug-In Solar (Current Hours only)
  • TennaMINI Solar (Current Hours only)
  • TennaFLEET Tracker OBD II
  • TennaFLEET Tracker JBUS
  • TennaFLEET II (with or without TennaCAM or TennaCAM 2.0)
  • TennaIN AEMP

These instructions are for manually updating Current Hours or Idle Hours after the tracker has been installed and verified. For more information about choosing the source of Current Hours or Idle Hours during Installation and Verification, view Current Hours and Idle Hours Overview and FAQ.

Which assets can have their Current Hours manually updated?

Any asset with Hours tracking enabled can manually update Current Hours. A user might update their Current Hours during:

  • Tracker Installation
  • Tracker Verification
  • A user has elected to Ignore ECU Hours due to a discrepancy
  • OR the equipment’s ECU does not report hour values to the tracker (due to unique make/model or older year). You can view the status of ECU Hour Data Provided in Asset Details.

NOTE: TennaFLEET II, TennaCAM 2.0, and TennaCANbus are the only trackers that support ECU reporting.

How to Enable/Disable Hours and Idle Hours Tracking

Select Assets from the left side navigation.

Select the asset you would like to edit hours for by selecting the eye icon next to the asset.

Select Edit Asset in the top left corner of the Asset Details page.

Scroll down to the Hours section of the Edit Asset page.

Check or uncheck the Current Hours and/or Idle Hours enabled checkboxes to enable or disable hours tracking.

NOTE: For Category Type: Heavy Equipment, Hours and Idle Hours are enabled by default.

NOTE: If the enabled box is unchecked, the Current Hours or Current Idle Hours box will be grayed-out and un-editable.

How to Update Current Hours or Current Idle Hours

Select Assets from the left side navigation.

Select the asset you would like to edit hours for by selecting the eye icon next to the asset.

Select Edit Asset in the top left corner of the Asset Details page.

Scroll down to the Hours section of the Edit Asset page.

NOTE: Current Hours and Current Idle Hours can only be manually updated if the Enabled box for that field is checked.

Enter a value for the Current Hours or Current Idle Hours.

This value should be an accurate baseline for the Current Hours or Current Idle Hours of your equipment from your dashboard value.

Scroll down and select Update Asset.

How to view the Log of Manual Updates

To view a Log of Manual Updates for Current Hours, select the clock icon next to Current Hours in the General Information Tab of the Asset Details page.

To view the Log of Manual Updates for Total Idle Duration, select the clock icon next to Total Idle Duration in the General Information Tab of the Asset Details page.

The Log will show the date, time, user, previous hours, updated hours, and reason for the update.

NOTE: The reason for update will say Tracker Installation, Tracker Verification or be blank. These reasons auto-populate based on when the update was made.
