How to Create a Geofence Zone (Desktop)

A zone is a smaller, optional, geofence within a boundary. This is for a specific area of a site, such as a project lay down area, the jobsite trailer, or certain segments of work.

NOTE: Zones can only exist inside of a boundary. This is the only type of geofence that can overlap with another boundary. However, zones cannot overlap another zone within a boundary.

See How to Create a Geofence Boundary (Desktop) for details on creating boundaries.

Permission Requirements: Users with the "Geofences" and the "Edit/Update Geofences" permissions have the ability to create geofence zones.

NOTE: Geofences can only be created in Tenna on a desktop, not in the Tenna App.

1

Select "Geofences" from the navigation bar on the left.

2

Find the boundary you wish to create a zone within.

In Grid View, use the search bar at the top of the screen or scroll through the list to find the boundary. Click on the eye icon next to the boundary to view it on the map.

Pro Tip! Click on the "Type" column to sort by geofence type to group all the boundaries before scrolling.

In Map View, manually zoom into a specific area of the map to find the boundary.

3

Hover over the pin of the boundary and select the "..." button.

4

Select "Create Zone".

5

Name your zone.

Type in the name of your zone in the box on the top left of the map. By default, the zone will be named "New Zone" until your change is made.

6

Identify the zone as Billable or Non-Billable.

Use the toggle on the top of the screen to identify the zone as billable or non-billable. By default, the zone will be non-billable.

NOTE: Billable/Non-Billable relates to the Asset Revenue feature. When billable assets are within a billable geofence, their billing rates are applied to that geofence's site thus collecting accurate job cost data.

7

Draw your geofence zone.

Select the "Box," "Circle," or "Trace Free Form" option at the bottom of the screen and draw your zone on the map.

8

Click "Create Zone".

The "Create Zone" button will be grayed out until the zone is drawn.

Click "Cancel" to undo your geofence and remove it from the map.

See How to Configure Geofence Alerts (Desktop) for further information on configuring alerts for your zones.
