Tracker Verification Overview

What: Tracker verification allows you to ensure each tracker is functioning properly at the time of installation and ensure data is flowing accurately from the tracker to the associated asset data files in Tenna.

Who: Power Users, and any user with Tracker Verification permission, can verify trackers after they were installed on assets.

NOTE: Tracker Verification is only available for Tenna Trackers (except TennaQR). Assets that have OEM Telematics and Tenna Integrations are not eligible.

Important: Each Tracker Verification process is made up of criteria - specific to that tracker type - that the "verifier" must access as pass or fail. See the tracker type's specific Tracker Verification pages for more details.

Criteria Matrix

The matrix below shows all of the criteria necessary to verify for each tracker type during the Tracker Verification process.

*Accurate Hours and Miles: The above are the default criteria for Tracker Verification. If your use case does not justify hours or miles on a certain asset (and you have opted out of hours or miles reporting), then the accurate hours or miles field will not show on the Tracker Verification page.

Trip Report: The Trip Report allows the user to confirm multiple data points captured during the last test trip after tracker installation.

  • Accurate Address: The trip start and trip end addresses are accurate

NOTE: Before trackers are verified, their status is “Installation Pending Verification,” limiting your visibility of asset location and certain asset detail information. Assets without "online" trackers show the asset Location and Site as "Sandbox", which is a holding place for assets without verified trackers.

  • Accurate Position: The position is accurately represented on the map.
  • Accurate Path: The dots on the map connecting Point A and Point B provide an accurate estimate of the path of the vehicle’s first trip.
  • Accurate Miles: Accurate Miles requires the user to first select the mileage source that will be used when updating Current Miles (ECU Odometer vs Baseline + Trip Distance), and then verify that the reported value is accurate as compared to the vehicle’s odometer reading.
  • Accurate Camera Feed: The camera feed shown on the app is accurate.

Cycle Report: The Cycle Report allows the user to confirm multiple data points captured during the last test cycle after tracker installation.

  • Accurate Hours: (TennaMINI only) The Accurate Hours step allows the user to confirm the running time for one or more test cycles after tracker installation.

Location Reading Timestamp: (TennaBLE only) allows the user to confirm that the date and time of location capture is accurate.

Successful Verification

All criteria is verified and the tracker's status changes from "Installation Pending Verification" to "Online." You can see a Location address, Site name (when applicable), and all the asset details relevant to each specific asset based on category and tracker type. Tabs may include Map View, Location History, Cycles, Trips and Utilization. Once verified, this tracker and it’s asset disappears from the Tracker Verification Report, but will remain on the Tracker Status page.

Failed Verification

If any of the criteria are marked as "Fail," because of inaccurate data values, the installation for that tracker is considered a failure. The tracker status changes from "Installation Pending Verification" to "Installation Failure", and this tracker will need to go through the Tenna App installation process again.

Why can't I verify my tracker?

The most common reason you cannot successfully verify a tracker is because the tracker has not checked in or has not completed a cycle.

Turn the asset’s ignition OFF and wait 5-10 minutes, then turn back ON.

Allow the asset to complete a cycle or trip.

Turn the asset OFF.

Then, refresh the Tracker Verification page and check for the eye icon in the Actions column.

TennaFLEET II + TennaCAM 2.0

A TennaFLEET II paired with a TennaCAM 2.0 requires a full cycle/trip before verifying. On occasion, the tracker will take a bit longer to get going the first time, so you may need a second cycle/trip.

TennaMINI

  • A TennaMINI tracker that has been idle for a long period of time may go into a hibernation state. Give the tracker a gentle shake – in a well-lit area – to “wake” the tracker.
  • A TennaMINI Plug-In Solar, TennaMINI Plug-In or TennaMINI Solar that has been in storage for more than a month may have a depleted internal battery.
    • To avoid this, install the tracker soon after receiving it.
    • If you feel the battery is depleted, connect to the asset, or leave in a well-lit area (for TennaMINI Solar), for several days before proceeding with installation.

NOTE: You cannot check the battery charge from the device. TennaMINI trackers are sealed to prevent water damage.

  • For TennaMINI Plug-Ins, check the wiring. Assets with incorrect wiring may constantly report as “running” or have no ignition events at all, which will lead to a failed verification.
  • TennaMINI Solar or Battery trackers require a check-in from the tracker to TOO.
