Installation Instructions
Step 1. Link the tracker to the asset in the Tenna App
- Go to where the asset is located (so that you can see and touch the asset).
- Open the Tenna App on your mobile device and log in.
- Using the Search function, find and select the asset that you want to track with this tracker.
- From the Asset page, tap Add Tracker.
- Follow the prompts along with these installation instructions.
Step 2. Determine the location on the asset to install the tracker
- The best location should:
- Be a flat surface.
- Not collect excessive dust, dirt, grease, or oil during routine use of the asset.
- Be protected from impacts, abrasion, and excessive heat.
- Not be backed by any components that screws would damage (if mounting with screws), like coolant lines, radiators, electrical wiring, etc.
Step 3. Prep the selected location.
With a grinder, remove any paint and/or rust to expose a clean metal surface.
Pro Tip! Wear safety glasses and gloves when using the grinder.
Step 4. Adjust the welder setting.
Important! Remove the BLE beacon from the Steel Puck prior to welding - heat from the weld will damage the beacon.
- Turn on the welder and adjust the settings.
- Increase or decrease the voltage and wire speed as needed.
Step 5. Weld the coupling to the asset.
- Tack-weld the unfinished edge of the coupling to the asset.
- Make sure both sides of the metal are fusing together.
- Fill in the remaining seam areas with "bead" welds.
Notes:
- Welding one side more than the other will lead to a lack of fusion and may result in improper metal joining.
- Avoid cold welds.
- Refer to our Suggested Welding Guide below:
Step 6. Place the tracker inside the coupling
- Allow the welded-on steel coupler to thoroughly cool until it is comfortable to touch with a bare hand.
- Apply adhesive to the end of the BLE Beacon tracker's housing.
- Screw the tracker's housing into the steel coupling
- Tighten until the tracker is recessed about 1/8" inside the steel coupling
- If necessary, insert a flat head screwdriver in the slot on the surface of the tracker to tighten.
- Apply a paint on the surface of the steel coupling that matches the original color of the surface to protect the steel and blend the installation into the asset.
📸 Capture Installation Photos in Tenna App
At this point, you are required to capture photos of the installation in the Tenna App. These photos are very important for troubleshooting in the future. When taking a photo, remember the following:
- Make sure the photo is clear (not blurry) and well-lit
- Take photos of the completed install
- Take photos of where and how the tracker is mounted/installed
- Show how the cables/connections are secured and routed in the photos
- Other recommended photos (if applicable): Serial No/VIN of the asset, license plate, insurance/registration cards, location of inspection QR codes, etc.
Step 7. Verify the tracker.
- Complete the remaining steps presented in the Tenna App to finalize and submit the installation for verification.
- Complete the verification in Tenna using a laptop or desktop computer.
