Installation Instructions

  1. Go to where the asset is located (so that you can see and touch the asset).

Note: Being in physical proximity to the asset helps ensure that you link the tracker to the intended asset.

  1. Open the Tenna App on your mobile device and log in.
  2. Using the Search function, find and select the asset that you want to track with this tracker.
  3. From the Asset page, tap Add Tracker.
  4. Begin the installation process by scanning the QR code on the back of the TennaBLE Beacon.

Important! You MUST scan the tracker’s QR code and assign to the asset prior to proceeding with installation. Once the tracker is welded/installed to the asset, scanning the QR code is difficult and will require disassembly.

  1. Follow the prompts in the Tenna App along with these installation instructions.

⚠️ If installing on a Road Plate, skip to these instructions.

Step 2. Determine the best location on the concrete form or trench box for installation.

The best location on a concrete form or trench box should:

  1. Be a flat surface.
  2. Be a safe and appropriate area to weld.

Important! Do not weld the tracker to an area that would compromise the structural integrity of the asset.

  1. Not impede the functionality of the asset.

Important! When choosing an appropriate location, consider the storage of the asset and ensure the tracker will not be in the way or damaged in storage.

Step 3. Prep the selected location.

With a grinder, remove any paint and/or rust to expose a clean metal surface.

Pro Tip! Wear safety glasses and gloves when using the grinder.

Step 4. Turn on the welder and adjust the setting.

⚠️ WARNING! These are instructions for welding on a concrete form or trench box. DO NOT use these steps for welding onto a road plate. Skip to the road plate instructions for specifics.

Important! Do not insert the TennaBLE Beacon into the steel housing yet. The heat from welding could damage the plastic housing around the TennaBLE Beacon.

If using a Mig Welder, we recommend 245 Wire Speed Feed (WFS) and 190V voltage.

If using a Stick Welder, we recommend 115 amp and 7018 welding rod.

Step 5. Weld the steel housing to the concrete form or trench box.

Important! We strongly recommend a qualified and experienced welder complete the following installation steps.

  • Welding one side more than the other will lead to a lack of fusion and may result in improper metal joining.
  • Avoid cold welds.
  • Refer to our Suggested Welding Guide below:

  1. To protect the threads on the inside of the steel housing, screw the steel threaded cover (C) into the steel housing (B) prior to welding.

Pro Tip! If welding to a vertical location, use the c-clamps or vise grips to hold the steel housing and steel threaded cover combination in place on the asset. Ensure the TennaBLE Beacon (A) is removed prior to clamping.

  1. Tack-weld the unfinished edge of the steel housing to the asset.

Important! Make sure both sides of the metal are fusing together.

  1. Fill in the remaining seam areas with "bead" welds.

Special Instructions: Installing on a Road Plate

Important! TennaBLE SP2 trackers should only be installed on 1" road plates.

The following are installation instructions specific to installing on a Road Plate.

  1. Place the tracker in the desired location and trace around it to mark the installation location.

  1. Using a flame torch, create a cavity the size of the traced location.

  1. Bevel the edges of the cavity to prep for welding.

  1. Position the tracker so that the top is flush with the road plate. Utilize something under the road plate to hold the tracker in place, like a metal bar.

Pro Tip! Prior to welding, a welding plug can be used inside the metal housing to prevent splatter or anti-splatter spray applied.

  1. Use a continuous, all-around weld. Then, carefully weld the top and bottom sides, avoiding excessive heat on the threads of the housing.

Step 6. Place the TennaBLE Beacon inside the steel housing.

  1. Allow the welded-on steel housing to thoroughly cool until it is comfortable to touch with a bare hand. This is for your safety and so that the plastic housing of the tracker does not melt upon assembly.

Important! Use a temperature gun to ensure the temp is below 104˚F (40˚C).

  1. Remove the steel threaded cover using the spanner wrench (if applicable).
  2. Clear the interior of the steel housing of any dirt or debris using a wire brush.
  3. Insert the TennaBLE Beacon.

Important! Ensure you have completed all of Step 1 (including scanning the QR code on the tracker) prior to completing the remaining steps.

  1. Using the provided spanner wrench (or any adjustable spanner wrench), tightly fasten the steel cover.

Pro Tip! For Concrete Forms or Trench Boxes ONLY: Paint the steel housing to protect from rust.

📸 Capture Installation Photos in Tenna App

At this point, you are required to capture photos of the installation in the Tenna App. These photos are very important for troubleshooting in the future. When taking a photo, remember the following:

  • Make sure the photo is clear (not blurry) and well-lit
  • Take photos of the completed install
  • Take photos of where and how the tracker is mounted/installed
  • Show how the cables/connections are secured and routed in the photos

Step 7. Verify the tracker.

  1. Complete the remaining steps presented in the Tenna App to finalize and submit the installation for verification.
  2. Complete the verification in Tenna using a laptop or desktop computer.
