Gorilla Safety ELD Overview and What to Expect

Tenna’s ELD offering powered by Gorilla Safety enables contractors to maintain the regulatory compliance they need for on road travel as an extension of their equipment management processes performed in Tenna. The intent of this resource is to set the stage for what you can expect when implementing and using ELD through Tenna and Gorilla Safety.

Installation and Setup

Tenna + Gorilla Safety. Although you purchased ELD through your Tenna subscription, ELD is managed in the Gorilla Safety platform, via a separate login. Drivers utilize the Gorilla Safety Plus app and admins utilize the web-based platform to actively manage their drivers and logs.
Accessing the Gorilla Safety App. Your company decides whether to provide a tablet/phone for each driver with access controlled by the company or allow users to use their own devices.
App Usage. Gorilla Safety accommodates both iOS and Android and both have the same user interface. Separate training is not needed for users with different devices or operating systems. The Gorilla Safety app is simple to access. Users can set up facial recognition (if their device has that functionality) as an option in place of having to type in their username and password.
Regional and State Rule Sets. States and industries have different rules for how HOS is conducted, including exemptions, exceptions, personal conveyance, adverse conditions, yard moves, or temporary rule suspensions that a driver can switch their status to . Gorilla Safety supports the standard federal and state rule sets as well as a broad range of driver rule sets and specific federal, state and industry exceptions. We do not support all of them. Gorilla Safety does support certain Canadian requirements.

Everyday Use

For Drivers

Connectivity. Drivers can expect a seamless and reliable connection between the vehicle’s ECM, fleet tracker and the Gorilla Safety app on any Android or iOS Apple tablet/mobile device. This connection between the vehicle ECM and fleet tracker allows for the transmission of odometer, speed, vehicle VIN, RPM and more. The connection between tablet/phone, tracker and vehicle allows drivers to easily sync before they start driving.
Ease of Use. Gorilla’s app interface is user friendly and intuitive. The layout is clear and simple to navigate with easy-to-read and use status change buttons. Drivers can expect to perform their required functions in the Gorilla Safety app while on the go without difficulty.
Simple Logging Process. Drivers can access their logs through a simple interface on the Gorilla Safety app. Driver log edits prior to certification are very easy to complete. Drivers can enjoy a simple and intuitive process to edit and annotate their logs to reflect any exemptions or exceptions.
Easy Access to Logs. Drivers can easily find and send over their logs and transfer data to state troopers for FMCSA DOT compliance if they get pulled over or hit a roadside inspection for easy compliance.
Useful Alerts. The Gorilla Safety app actively provides helpful alerts to drivers to let them know when their shift clocks are winding down. Drivers can expect banner and audible alerts to notify them that they are running up against one of their time outs so they do not miss a required break.
Clear Shift and Break Time Schedules. It’s easy for a driver to see where they stand relative to shift time, drive time and HOS break time in the Gorilla Safety app, as well as their overall percent clock. Drivers can expect to see the total time they have available, depending on their rule set, and when that time resets.

For Admins

Simple and Intuitive User Interface. As with drivers using the Gorilla Safety app, administrative users can expect a simple experience using the Gorilla Safety platform. Functionality is naturally intuitive without extensive training required.
Bulk Upload Assets. Admins can expect to set up their vehicles, power units, trailers and drivers very easily in Gorilla Safety either individually or via bulk upload.
Easily Monitor and Certify Logs. Admins looking at their driver logs on a daily basis can expect a simple process for viewing and certifying logs.
Inspections. DVIRs and inspections will be both performed by drivers and viewed by admins and mechanics in Tenna, not in Gorilla Safety. After an inspection is submitted, subsequent addressing of that inspection issue, documenting the repair and ensuring the fix takes place in Tenna.
