How to Prevent and What to Do if Your ELD Log is Stuck in Drive
Per the FMCSA Federal ELD Mandate, no automatically recorded driving event can be edited, no matter how long the event was and or the reasoning. The most common reason is application termination due to low battery or manually closing the app before ending each session.
To prevent your log from getting stuck in drive:
- Logout at the end of each session
- The application will not allow you to be in drive when you logout and it will force any prior events to the server.
- You will not be placed in drive while logged out as the app and hardware disconnect at logout.
- DO NOT terminate your application
- DO NOT turn your phone off while using the application
- Make sure your device is fully charged
- The above will cause the application to essentially end and leave you in your last “synced” status.
If your log is stuck in drive:
Put a note in the log:
- Enter a note in each day that is affected. Keep the note short.
- Enter the time the event ended, the status you should have been in, and for how long.
- KEEP USING THE ELD. If you don’t, you may get a citation, but you will need to keep track of your time manually since the app will show a violation.
- GORILLA SAFETY DOES NOT SHOW VIOLATIONS TO INSPECTING OFFICERS. This is up to the inspecting officer to find and rule on.
