How to Create a Consumable Asset (Desktop)

A Consumable Asset is an asset you consider expendable. The Consumables functionality allows users to manage construction inventory and consumable resources, including adding new consumable assets and adjusting quantities with use.

Some examples of consumable assets are signage, road plates, filters, traffic cones, electric supplies, and sprinklers.

Important! Users designate an asset as Consumable by assigning it to an asset Category with the Category Type “Consumables”.

Creating and managing Consumable Assets in Tenna consists of the following steps:

1

Create a Major Category with Category Type: Consumables and any necessary subcategories.

This is completely customizable based on the needs of your organization. To learn more about creating categories, view How to Create and Edit Categories (Desktop).

2

Choose the Consumables category for your consumable assets.

To designate an asset as Consumable, choose the Consumables category (that you set up in the first step) in the create asset form.

Refer to the How to Create, Edit and Delete an Asset (Desktop) article for information on creating a consumable asset.

3

Track quantities of your consumable assets.

You may do this in Tenna on your desktop computer or in the Tenna App on your mobile device.

A history log of changes to the consumable asset’s quantity is shown, with details on the date and time of the change, user that made the change, the site it was added to or subtracted from, and the balance after the specific change.

View How to Add or Subtract Consumable Asset Quantities (Desktop) or How to Add or Subtract Consumable Asset Quantities (App) for details.
